The cake in this photograph was made from a special old recipe that had been used by Huntley & Palmers for the production of their wedding cakes over a number of years. The total size and weight of the cake was considerably reduced from the original proposals as a result of a request by Princess Elizabeth.

The illustrated plaques and decorations, that were hand-painted or reproduced in sugar, illustrated the widespread activities and interests of the Royal couple. HM Queen Elizabeth II gave permission for a replica of the cake to be exhibited with the proceeds going to the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust and the Women’s Royal Naval Benevolent Trust.

This letter to Huntley, Boorne and Stevens of Reading relates to a biscuit tin design for Huntley and Palmers, Biscuit and Cake Manufacturers of Reading. The tin was designed to commemorate the visit of Princess Elizabeth [later Queen Elizabeth II] to Canada in 1951 and is described as an ‘exceptionally fine’ and ‘truly a magnificent tin’.

This Aldermaston Pottery design is for a commemorative mug in celebration of the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The completed mug was displayed in an exhibition in Stoke-on-Trent in 1985.
