New online gallery showcases Oscar Wilde and Reading prison

The latest online gallery on the Berkshire Record Office's website is now available. Entitled 'Oscar Wilde and Reading Gaol' the gallery showcases an exhibition which was presented to the public by the BRO in 2014 to 2015 to mark the closure of Reading Prison in 2013. The exhibition was a collaboration with the University of Reading and Reading Museum and received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Plan of Reading Gaol 1842

The exhibition used archives and artefacts from Reading Prison relating to Oscar Wilde's time there and provided an insight into Wilde's contribution to literary and cultural life through items held at the University of Reading Special Collections. Now images and text from the exhibition are readily available to view online.
