World War 1

Awarding a Distinguished Conduct Medal, Asiago, Italy, 1918 (D/EX229/4/7)

The Berkshire Record Office holds various records which document the local impact of World War 1.

These include arrangements for civil defence, guarding bridges, food control and agricultural work. There are also lists of those who served overseas, together with some private records that either detail life at the front or changes required back home as a result of the war.

Finally there are some records of local remembrance memorials.

Take a look at our World War One Sources Guide below to find out what we hold in the collections.

And don't forget to take a look at our online WWI blog. Each post relates to that day or month 100 years earlier as the war unfolds before Berkshire eyes. Click on the 'Berkshire at War' related link below to find out more.
