Welford National School, 1856

The Berkshire Record Office holds the records of over 800 schools. Some schools began as charitable foundations centuries before public education became a requirement. Others began as British or National schools under the encouragement of churches. From 1870 local authorities became involved in building and running schools.

We are in the process of creating guides to the schools records we hold. Click the links below to download those guides currently available.  There is a comprehensive index to school records in the searchroom, so please contact us if your school is not listed in the guides.

Please note that we do not hold individual pupil records or examination results.
