Heritage Open Day 2018 - Beyond the searchroom and on to Düsseldorf

Taking place on the 8th of Sep 2018 at 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Location: The Berkshire Record Office, 9 Coley Avenue, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 6AF

Saturday 8th September 2018

Beyond the searchroom and on to Düsseldorf

Go into areas of the Berkshire Record Office (BRO), the archives of the Royal County of Berkshire, which are not normally accessible and discover how our conservator repairs vulnerable documents as well as how we store Berkshire's historic archives.

This year we will be joined by the Reading Düsseldorf Association (RDA) where you can learn more about the links between the two towns and look at items from the RDA and Phoebe Cusden (Mayor of Reading in 1946) archives. There will also be a unique opportunity to contribute your own stories and memorabilia of Reading/Düsseldorf activities.

It's all FREE!

The BRO tour is at 10.00-11.00 - You need to book a place and there are 12 spaces available.

Please use the online Contact Us form: www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk/ContactUs/
or call 0118 937 5132 to book a place.

The RDA memories and memorabilia sharing session will be between 10.00-13.00 and you can just turn up for this.

Perhaps you have documents such as diaries, letters, photographs, flyers, tickets, artwork, essays etc. that tell a story about your visit to, or connection with, Düsseldorf, or with the RDA between its inception and today?

If you do, this is your chance to take part in an interactive, impromptu exhibition of personal or official items that will give us a glimpse of the wealth of personal and collective memories of generations of Reading people who have participated in the Young People’s Exchange, travelled to Düsseldorf for sport, music, theatre or any other cultural exchange or contributed in any way to the work of the RDA.

To find out more about the Reading Düsseldorf Association, please see their website: www.reading-dusseldorf.org.uk/

Remember, you can just turn up for the RDA session, but you need to book a place for the BRO tour.

We look forward to seeing you on the day!
